A Polish passport is a document that entitles the holder to cross the border and stay abroad. It confirms the Polish citizenship and identity of the holder as indicated by the data it contains.

The passport contains two biometric identifying features: the applicant's facial image and fingerprints. Fingerprints are taken when submitting a passport application and stored in the electronic layer on the passport.

You must appear in person to apply for your passport. You cannot use third parties or send the application by mail.

You must appear in person to collect your passport. In justified cases, especially if you have problems traveling to the Consulate, the Consul may, at the written request of the passport applicant, waive the requirement to personally collect the passport. In that case a delivery fee is 18 USD.

10-year and 5-year (biometric) passports are prepared in Poland. You should apply for a new passport at least 2 months before your current passport expires. Biometric passport applicants have their fingerprints taken when submitting their applications.

Biometric passport processing time is approximately 4-6 weeks.

Please note: Applicants who do not have a Personal ID Number (PESEL) must submit an application to have a number assigned to them when applying for a passport. Biometric passports cannot be issued without a Personal ID Number (PESEL).
